Allah Tabaaraka wa Ta’aala mentions in the Qur’aanul kareem,
Verily the only acceptable religion in the court of ALLAh is the religion of ISLAAM.
In another verse, Allah Tabaaraka wa Ta’aala mentions,
whoever opts for a religion besides Islaam, it will not be accepted from him. And he will be from amongst those who suffer loss in the hereafter
These two verses are clear in explaining the criterion of acceptance and salvation in the hereafter. Only deeds in accordance to the shariah of islam will be acceptable by Allah on the day of judgement. Unfortunately the muslim ummah, especially the ones resident in the west , are facing an identity crises due to the lack of understanding and weakness of realizing the beauty of islaam. I herein wish to bring to light what islam is, what it entails and also what our duties are as muslims wherever we reside.
Islam in Arabic refers to submission. Therefore a true muslim is one who submits to the will of ALLAH, the creator and sustainer, and abandons his own wims and fancies. it is mentioned in the Holy Qur’aan about the being that submits himself to the commands of HIS LORD AND SUSTAINER as follows :-
“and those who submit (accept), they have opted for the path of wisdom.”
wisdom.intelligence has been link to submission. Rasulullaah salallaahu alayhi wa sallam has mentioned :-
“the intelligent person is the one who recognises his shortfallings and weaknesses and does deeds to benefit his aakhirah (hereafter) and a weakling is the one who follows his desires aand kindles hopes of forgiveness from ALLAH”
The Non muslim world are caught up in fulfilling their desires and lusts and regard submission as stupidity but as we see ALLAH has actually declared the one who submits to the will of ALLAH an intelligent person and the one who follows his desires is called a weakling by Rasulullaah Salallaahu alayhi wasallam
For us to understand the true meaning of being sumissive and fulfilling the role of a slave, the incident narrated of Hassan Basri rahimahullah best illlustrates it.
it is narrated that on one occasion Hasan Basri ra went to the market place and purchased a slave . On returning , he asked the slaves a few questions and passed out on hearing the answers. the questions were as follows-
Hasan Basri : Where would you like to sleep?
The Slave : The place my master chooses for me is the best for me.
Hasan basri :What type of food do you eat?
the Slave : i eat whatever my master gives me to eat.
Hasan Basri : What clothes do y0u like to wear?
the Slave :Whatever my Master provides for me
On hearing these answers Sayyidina Hasan Basri rahimahullah passes out. On awaking, the slave perturbed by what happened tries to comfort him and as he tries to enquire the reason for his passing out , Hasan Basri rahimahullaah informs him that “i have feed you for the sake of ALLAH.” The slave shocked asks him the reason and is informed by the great tabi ee that “you have taught me how to become the true slave nd servant of my Sustainer, my ALLAH. You have taught me how to become submissive to the will of my Lord ALLAH.”
If only we can take lesson from this story and truely become submissive to the will of ALLAH.
