TIME IS GOLD” rather more precious in Islaam than any expensive metal of the world. The Glorious Qur’aan and the Ahadith have reminded the value of time in numerous places. The Nabee of Allaah is reported as to have said, “There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) health and free time for doing good.”

Islaam is the only religion that guides mankind in every facet of life and teaches them how to spend their time. If proper importance has been given to time then it will serve as a means of eternal success. If time has been wasted then it will lead to everlasting loss. The Nabee of Allaah is reported as to have said, “A man shall be asked concerning five things on the day of resurrection: concerning his life, how he spent it; concerning his youth, how he grew old; concerning his wealth, whence he acquired it, and in what way he spent it; and how he utilized the knowledge that he had.”

The sole purpose of a Muslim’s life is to worship Allaah (SWT) as this view has clearly been stated in the Qur’aan. Allaah (SWT) says, “I have created not the jinn and men except that they should worship Me (Alone). I seek not any provision from them nor do I ask that they should feed Me. Verily, Allaah is the All-Provider, Owner of Power, Most Strong.” (Al-Qur’aan 51:56-58)

The time and the days which have been spent in accordance with the Qur’aan and the Sunnah is an act of worship. Every step of a Muslim which he takes in line with the teachings of Islaam is recorded in the list of Ibaadah.

Every individual wishes to enjoy and make a splendid holiday. But his happiness ends with the end of holidays. If a Muslim spends his free time and holidays as per the guidelines set by Shariah, and engages himself with such activities that could lead to Allaah (SWT), his enjoyment will last forever. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala says, “By Al-`Asr. Verily, man is in loss. Except those who believe and do righteous deeds, and recommend one another to the truth, and recommend one another to patience. (Al-Qur’aan (103:1-3)
