VIRTUES OF QURBAANI

How kind and generous Allaah is! He provides his servants with an opportunity after another to purify themselves and get benefit from His immense treasure. Qurbaani is a means of getting Allaah’s forgiveness and receiving rewards from Him. It is narrated on the authority of Sayydinaa Aayeshaa that the Nabee of Allaah is reported to have said, “The son of Adam does not perform any actions on the day of sacrifice which is more pleasing to Allaah than the shedding of blood. The animal will come on the day of resurrection with its hair, horns and hooves. The blood of the animal is accepted by Allaah before it falls on the ground. Therefore, sacrifice with an open and happy heart”. (Tirmizi, Ibn Majah)

Ibne Majah recorded on the authority of Zayd lbne Arqam that the Companions asked, “O Rasoolullah! What is Qurbani?” He replied, “It is the Sunnah of your father lbraaheem.” They asked again, “What will we get from it?” He answered, “For every hair there is a reward.” “And about the wool, 0 Rasoolullah?” they asked. “For every fibre of wool there a reward”, he replied.”

It is mentioned in Kanzul Ummal that when a person sacrifices an animal, he is forgiven at the fall of the first drop of blood. Verily, the animal shall be brought forward on the Day of Judgment with its blood, meat etc, and shall be increased in weight seventy times more than its own weight, and thereafter it will be placed on the scale of deeds.

Imaam Tabrani recorded on the authority of Ibne Abbaas that the Nabee of Allaah is reported to have said, “The most beloved wealth to Allaah on the day of Eid is the money spent for sacrificed animal”.

On the other hand, those who do not make Qurbaani instead of having financial ability deprive themselves of the enormous rewards of Qurbaani and come under the curse of the beloved Nabee. The Nabee of Allaah prohibited such stingy people from celebrating Eid and attending the Eid Salaah as a member of Muslim community. It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah that the Nabee of Allaah is reported as to have said, “Whoever has the means to make Qurbaani and yet does not then such a person should not come close to our Eid Ghaah”.
