Shia claim of the necessity of following their imaams and the reply.

Salamu Alaikum Shaikh ,
recently i had a discussion with a Shia/Rafidi he asked me about who my (respective imam is)?

he used as proof the following verse:

Quran 17:71 One day We shall call together all human beings with their (respective) Imams: those who are given their record in their right hand will read it (with pleasure), and they will not be dealt with unjustly in the least.

^Yusuf Ali Translation

but another translation says the following:

Quran 017.071 On the day when We shall summon all men with their record, whoso is given his book in his right hand – such will read their book and they will not be wronged a shred.

^Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall (Translation)

wich one is the right translation? Yusuf Ali or Pickthall? and what does the Rafidi mean with the statement or is he playing with words?

Assalaamu alaykum
It seems the rafidhi is playing with words. Where does it say the imaams of the rawaafidh? Actually according to the great mufassireen it refers to:-

1. The different ambiya alayhimus salaam as ALLAH mentioned in another ayah

{ وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ رَّسُولٌ فَإِذَا جَآءَ رَسُولُهُمْ قُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ بِٱلْقِسْطِ }[يونس: 47] which means “EVERY NATION HAD ITS MESSENGER. aND WHEN THEIR MESSENGERS APPEAR THEIR ACCOUNT WILL BE TAKEN”

This was the opinion of Mujaahid the mufassir.
2. It refers to their record of deeds as mentioned in another ayah of the qur’aan

{ وَكُلَّ شىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ فِىۤ إِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ }
[يس: 12] “AND EVERYTHING HAS BEEN RECORDED IN A CLEAR RECORD(SCRIPTURE)

This was the opinion of Sayyidina abdullah bin Abbbas radhiyallahu anhumma , a member of the ahl bait.
