Homosexuality and entrance into jannah

asalaamu alikum

I have heard from the Salafis that homosexuality is the second worst sin. is this true? and can a gay person who truly has faith in allah[swt] and truly believes that muhammad is the messenger, if he dies and did not repent will he be in eternal hell or will allah[swt] have mercy and he could eventually reach jannah?

There is no doubt that homosexuality is one of the grave sins, but a gay who believes in Allaah and His Messenger and dies in this state would eventually reach Jannah. It narrated on the authority of Abu Zar (رضى الله عنه)that he came to the Prophet ﷺand he was sleeping with a white mantle over him. He again came and the Prophet was still sleeping. He came again and saw the Prophet awaken. He sat by Prophet’s side and the Prophet said, “There is no slave of Allaah who affirms his faith in Iaa Ilaha Illallah and dies in this state and would not enter Jannah. Abu Zar (رضى الله عنه) asked, “Even if he commits adultery and theft”. The Prophet replied, “Yes, even if he commits adultery and theft”. Abu Zar (رضى الله عنه) again asked, “Even if he commits adultery and theft”. The Prophet replied, “Yes, even if he commits adultery and theft”. The Prophet repeated it three times and for the fourth time he said, “In defiance of Abu Zar (رضى الله عنه) ”. Abu Zar (رضى الله عنه) then went out and he repeated these words ‘In defiance of Abu Zar’. (Sahih Muslim, Kitabul Imaan)
