CONDITIONS FOR IHRAAM
Q. What are the conditions for the validly of Ihraam?
A. The conditions for the validity of Ihraam are as follows:
Islam—being a Muslim is necessary for the validity of Ihraam.
Intention—making the intention of Ihraam along with the recitation of Talbiyah or any other Zikr.
WAJIBAT OF IHRAAM
Q. I want to know the Wajibat of Ihram?
A. There are two Wajibat of Ihraam; putting on Ihram garment from Miqaat (legal boundary) and abstaining from the practices prohibited during Ihram condition.
Niyyah and Talbiyah both are necessary for the validity of Ihraam. If one is missed, the Ihraam won’t be valid.
PROHIBITED PRACTICES IN IHRAAM
Q. What are the prohibited practices during Ihraam condition?
A. The following practices are prohibited during Ihraam condition:
Ø Quarrelling, transgressing and using offensive languages
Ø Clipping nails
Ø Hunting of wildlife, asking or helping a hunter in anyway, chasing, destroying the eggs or taking advantage of wildlife at any cost
Ø Killing lice, indicating it to others and removing it form the body or hair
Ø Using perfume, scent and every item that has a fragrance, e.g. fragrant soap etc
Ø Trimming, shaving or clipping hair from any part of the body
Ø Rubbing body in a way that hair falls off is Makrooh
Ø Intercourse and everything relating or leading to it
Ø Men must not wear stitched garments, underwear, gloves or socks. They should never cover their heads and faces.
Ø Combing hair and beard is Makrooh
Ø Washing one’s head and beard with soap and removing dirt from the body by using soap or any other cleansing means is also Makrooh
Ø It is Makrooh to stitch the loincloth from front
Ø It is Makrooh to tie the covering sheet round the neck, tie the sheet and the loincloth with a knot, pin them together or tie them with thread etc.
Ø Smelling perfume intentionally is Makrooh
Ø It is Makrooh to tie a strip of cloth round the body with the exception of head and mouth without any necessity.
Ø It is Makrooh to let the covering cloth of Ka’aba touch one’s head or face
Ø It is Makrooh to lie face-ward on the pillow
FARAYEEZ OF HAJJ
Q. How many Farayeez are there in Hajj?
A. There are three Farayeez in Hajj.
Ihraam—putting on Ihraam intending for Hajj and reciting Talbiyah.
Uqufe Arafaat—staying at Arafaat at any time for even a single moment from the Zawal-afternoon of Zilhijjah 9 to the dawn of Zillhijjah 10.
Tawafe Ziyarat—Tawaf performed after getting hair trimmed or shaved from the early dawn of Zilhijjah 10 till the sunset of Zilhijjah 12.
If any of the above-mentioned Farayeez is missed, Hajj will be invalid and can’t be compensated with Dam (sacrifice). It is Wajib to perform the above-stated Farayeez in proper order at their specific places and times.
WAJIBAT OF HAJJ
Q. How many Wajibat are there in Hajj?
A. There are sex Wajibat in Hajj.
Ø To stay at Muzdalifa at its prescribed time
Ø To perform Sa’ee—slow running between Safa and Marwah—the area between the two green columns and fluorescent lights.
Ø To perform Ramee—throwing pebbles at the Jamarat.
Ø To sacrifice animals (this is wajib for one who performs Hajj Al-Qiran or Tamttu’).
Ø To get hair trimmed or shaved.
Ø To perform Tawaf Alwada’ (this Tawaf is for those who have come from outside the Miqaat).
CONDITIONS & WAJIBAT OF TAWAF
Q. What are the conditions and Wajibaat of Tawaaf?
A. Conditions for Tawaaf are as follows:
Ø Performing Tawaf in the Masjid Al-Haram, around the Ka’aba
Ø Performing the major part of Tawaaf
Ø Performing Tawaaf oneself even sitting in a wheelchair, if needed.
The stated conditions are common for all kinds of Tawaf; Hajj, Umrah etc. and the followings are only for the Tawaaf of Hajj.
Ø Performing Tawaf at the specific time
Ø Preceding the Tawaf with Ihram
Ø Preceding the Tawaf with Uquf Al-Arafar
Wajibaat of Tawaaf are as below:
Ø Purifying oneself from both major and minor impurities
Ø Covering Satar—the Satar of man is from navel to knees and of woman is the whole body save face, hand up to wrists and feet.
Ø Performing Tawaaf on one’s own foot, if possible
Ø Commencing Tawaaf facing the Ka’ba in a manner that the entire Hajar-e-Aswad remains on one’s right and the left shoulder towards Rukne Yamaanee.
Ø Performing Tawaaf including Hateem
Ø Commencing the Tawaaf from Hajar Al–Aswad, though some viewed it as Sunnah
Ø Performing all rounds of Tawaaf
Ø Performing two Raka’at Salah after the completion of Tawaaf
CONDITIONS FOR VALIDITY OF SA’EE
Q. What are the conditions for the validity of Sa’ee?
A. Following are the conditions for the validity of Sa’ee.
Ø Performing Sa’ee oneself
Ø Performing Sa’eee after performing a complete Tawaaf or most part of it
Ø Preceding Sa’ee with the Ihraam of Hajj or Umrah
Ø Beginning Sa’ee from Safaa and completing at Marwaah
Ø Performing most part of Sa’ee
Ø Performing Sa’ee in its time-month of Hajj
ESSENTIAL ASPECTS OF SA’EE
Q. What aspects are essential in Sa’ee?
A. The essential aspects of Sa’ee are as follows:
Ø Performing Sa’ee after a Tawaaf performed in the state of Taharah from major impurities
Ø Beginning Sa’ee from Safaa and ending at Marwah
Ø Performing Sa’ee walking, if there is no valid reason
Ø Completing seven circuits of Sa’ee
Ø Not taking off the Ihraam till the end of Sa’ee when it is of Umrah
Ø Covering the whole distance between Safaa and Marwah by walking
CONDITIONS FOR VALIDITY OF UQOOF
Q. What are the conditions for the validity of Uqoof?
A. The following are the conditions for the validity of Uqoof.
Ø Performing Uqoof with the Ihraam of a valid Hajj
Ø Performing Uqoof at its specific place-Arafaat
Ø Performing Uqoof in its time-from the Zawaal of 9 till the dawn of 10 Zulhijjah
CONDITIONS FOR VALIDITY OF RAMEE
Q. What are the conditions for the validity of Ramee?
A. The following are the conditions for the validity of Ramee.
Ø Throwing pebbles, not placing them
Ø Throwing them by hand
Ø Throwing them closer to Jamarah
Ø Falling of pebbles by the action of the person throwing them
Ø Throwing seven pebbles separately
Ø Throwing pebbles oneself, if there is no valid reason
Ø Being pebbles from the type of soil
Ø Being the time of Ramee
Ø Performing most part of Ramee
Ø Performing Ramee in order (This is Sunnah according to majority of Ulamaa)

WEARING UNDERWEAR IN IHRAAM
Q. Can a man wear underwear during Ihraam condition?
A. A man is not permitted in the state of Ihraam to wear stitched clothes or something that is sewn or knitted to the shape of the whole body or any part of the body such as Jubba, hat and socks. Therefore, a man is not permitted to wear underwear during Ihraam condition.
WEARING SLIPPERS IN IHRAAM
Q. Can one wear slippers in Ihraam condition?
A. Yes, one may wear slippers in Ihraam condition provided that the bone on the middle of foot is exposed.
APPOINTING AGENT FOR SACRIFICING ANIMAL
Q. Is it permitted to appoint an agent for sacrificing animal?
A. To sacrifice an animal with one’s own hands is more preferable for one who knows how to slaughter animals. But if one doesn’t know how to do, it is advisable to be present at the time of slaughtering, and if it is also not possible then one may appoint an agent to sacrifice the animal on one’s behalf, making the intention whether the sacrifice is for Hajj Al-Qiran or for Hajj Attamattu’.
DEFINITION OF QURBANI
Q. What is Qurbani?
A. Qurbani or Udhiyah is to sacrifice an animal on the days of Qurbani in order to emulate the example of Ibraheem (AS) and accomplish the injunction of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala says:
“So turn in prayer towards your Lord and sacrifice (animals)”. (Suratul Kausar: 108/2)
ON WHOM QURBANI IS WAJIB
Q. Who is entitled to perform Qurbani?
A. Qurbani is Wajib on every sane, adult and Muqeem Muslim who possesses Nisab—gold 7.5 Tolas = 87.48 grams, silver 52.5 Tolas = 612 grams or wealth equivalent to that value in cash or kind, free from his/her initial needs and debt on the Days of Qurbani.
DAYS OF QURBANI
Q. What are the days known as the Days of Qurbani?
A. The following days are called the Days of Qurbani:
Tenth, Eleventh and the Twelfth of Zulhijjaha—the last month of Islamic calendar. It is preferable to perform Qurbani on the first day—10 Zulhijjah.
TIME FOR QURBANI
Q. When does the time for performing Qurbani commence?
A. The time for performing Qurbani commences after the Eid Salah on 10th Zulhijjah in the areas where Eid and Jumu’ah Salah are performed and terminates just before the sunset of 12th Zulhijjah. Therefore, it is not permitted in towns and cities to perform Qurbani before Eid Salah, and if offered then it must be repeated after the Salah.
QUALIFIED ANIMALS FOR QURBANI
Q. What types of animals are qualified for performing Qurbani?
A. The following animals are qualified for performing Qurbani:
Ø One or more year-old goat and she-goat
Ø One or more year-old sheep of all types. But if a sheep of six months appears to be one year old, it will be eligible for Qurbani.
Ø Two or more year-old cow, bull and buffalo
Ø Five or more year-old camel
DISQUALIFIED ANIMALS FOR QURBANI
Q. What kinds of animals are disqualified for Qurbani?
A. The following animals are ineligible for Qurbani:
Ø Blind animal.
Ø One-eyed animal.
Ø Animal that lost one third or more eyesight.
Ø Animal that has no ear by birth or lost one third.
Ø Animal that has one third or more tail cut off.
Ø Animal with horns broken off from the root.
Ø Animal with limb broken and uses only three legs for walking.
Ø Animal without teeth or one that lost most of the teeth.
Ø Animal that is lean enough.
Ø Animal that is too week to walk to the place of sacrifice on its own.
QURBANI NOT PERFORMED IN ITS DAYS
Q. what is the ruling concerning a person on whom Qurbani is Wajid but could perform it during the specified days?
A. If the person had bought an animal for Qurbani and could not perform it during the specified days then he should give the animal in charity alive. But if he did not purchase the animal then he should give the value of an animal in charity.
DONATING AMOUNT OF QURBANI
Q. Is it permitted for a person liable for Qurbani to give the amount in charity instead of performing Qurban?
A. No, it is not permitted. He must perform Qurbani. Charity cannot compensate for Qurbani nor will it accomplish the Qurbani obligatory on him.
SELLING SKIN OF SACRIFICED ANIMAL
Q. Is it permitted to sell the skin of sacrificed animal?
A. It is not permitted to sell any part of the sacrificed animal. However if the skin is soled, the amount must be given in charity to the Muslim poor eligible for Zakaat.
SACRIFICING PREGNANT ANIMAL
Q. What is the ruling of Islamic Shariah concerning an animal that does not appear pregnant but after sacrificing a foetus is found in the belly? Is the sacrifice valid or should it be performed once more?
A. There is nothing wrong in sacrificing pregnant animal. If the foetus is alive, it must also be slaughtered, and if dead then it is not permitted to eat that foetus. However, the sacrifice is valid and does not need to be performed again (Allaah knows best.)
