As Salamu alaykum,

My question Dear Shaykh is about the official Sunni Islam position on those who ask the dead Awliyah for help such as we hear of people saying ‘Ya Abdul Qadir Jilani Madad!’. I am reffering to Istigatha and not Tawasul. Jazakallah khayr

Wa alaykumus salaam wa rahmatullah
In the ahaadeeth of our beloved Rasulullaah sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam we are instruct
اذا سألتم فاسألوا الله و اذا استعنتم فاستعنوا بالله
Whenever you ask ask from ALLAH and whenever you seek help seek help from ALLAH.”
Normally Istighaathaa refers to asking help from others. In our day to day matters asking help from other fellow living beings is permissable. However to ask those who have left the world such help is something everyone agrees upon that it is not possible. What then the situation of asking the individual to aide and help you in matters that is regarded as the maghibaat and Huqooq of ALLAH??
