Hayaatun nabi ( The messengers of ALLAH alive in their graves)

A question was brought up concerning the permissibilty of requesting Rasulullaah salallahu alayhi wa sallam at his rawdha ath har (grave) to make du’a of forgiveness on our behalf. In answer to that question there are few issues that have to be discussed before the issue could be fully replied. Amongst the issues that needs to be addressed first is the issue of whether the ambiya are alive in the graves or not. Thereafter it requires to address the issue whether Rasulullaah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam hears in the grave or not. Finally the proofs of requesting can then be understood. Herewith I wish to start with the issue concerning the anbiyaa alayhimus salaaam being alive in their graves.

In his book qowlul bdi3 Imaam Sakhaawi rahimahullaah mentions” it is an accepted fact that we believe that the anbiyaa alayhimus salaam are alive in their graves especially that our beloved Rasul sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam is alive in His grave and the earth has been forbidden to devour His blessed body and the ijmaa3 of the ummah is on this fact.”

Concerning the anbiyaa being alive in their graves, Imaam Bayhaqi r.a. has written a book on this topic and he has narrated the hadeeth from Sayyidina Anas radhiyallahu anhu “ the ambiyaa are alive in their grave and they are performing Salah.” To further substantiate the hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim we find the riwaayah of Sayyidina Anas radhiyallahu anhu that he mentions that Rasulullaah sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned that while on journey to baitul muqaddas “I passed by the grave of sayyidina Musa alayhis salaam who was performing salah in it.” In a hadeeth concerning the virtue of jumu’ah there is a narration of Sayyidina Abu Dardaa radhiyallaahu anhu mentioning that Rasulullaah sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam said, “ Increase your salutations on me on the day of jumu’ah. Verily it is a blessed day wherein the malaa’ikah are present. None of you sends his salutations except that it is brought to me immediately until he stops reading. Sayyidina Abu Dardaa says I asked and after your demise? Rasulullaah sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam said “verily ALLAH has made the bodies of the ambiyaa haram on the earth (to devour).”( narrated by Ibn Majah with a good chain and mulla Ali Al Qaari rahimahullah mentioned the are many riwaayaat to back up this narration with slight variations. Imam Sakhaawi has brought the addition “ the Nabi is alive and is being granted rizq” with many other ahadeeth from various chains to substantiate it.. ) From the abovementioned ahadeeth it is clearly asertaible that the anbiyaa alayhimus salaam are alive in the graves.

Now to assertain whether the anbiyaa hear from the graves or not. In a hadeeth that is narrated by Sayyidina Abu Hurairah radhiyallaahu anhu that Rasulullaah sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam said “whosoever sends salutations on me by my qabr I hear it and whosoever sends it on me from far away it is conveyed to me.” [ bayhaqi in shuabil imaan] In another hadeeth narrated by Ammar Bin Yaasir radhiyallaahu anhu that Rasulullaah sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam said “ verily ALLAH has deputed an angel by my grave who has been granted the capability of hearing the voices of all creation . There is none who conveys salutations on me till the Yohm Qiyaamah (Day of Judgement) except that he conveys it to me by mentioning the conveyor’s name and his father’s name fulan the son of fulan (someone) has conveyed salam on you.” [barraz ]

It is clear from these proofs that Rasulullaah sallalahu alayhi wa sallam is alive in his grave and he hears us. Unfortunately a group of muslims who call themselves the saved sect and the only true ahlus sunnah have openly showed the greatest disrespect to Rasulullaah salallaahu alayhi wa sallam by calling him dead and deny His hearing in the grave, Yet they claim themselves as  “the true followers of hadeeth”.

    AKhi there was also 2 hadiths that prophet mohammad(sw) is also aware about the ummah. Could u please find out those hadihts. once i found those out but alas i lost it.

    Among the ettiquettes of speech with a muslim brother is the beginning with the Islaamic greetings.( A humble reminder for the mu3mineen is beneficial) As for your query about the 2 “ahaadeeth” , it is a bit vague. Could you clarify which or more or less the meaning of the hadeeth you are asking about?

    Please find three hadeeth and the website related to Prophet alive in grave, answer by Mufti Ebrahim desi. Indeed Mufti sahab is true and it is the beleive of all Muslimeen , that Prophet Muhammd SAW is alive in his gave, where we also know he die in his world but spcial life in Barzak is reality. EXCEPT Pseudo-Salafi/Ahlul bidat/Ahlul Hadeeth or Munkara hadeeth Who are enough Jahil and ignorant to know where it is written Prophet is alive. Here are the hadeeth

    Anas ibn Maaliki (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘The Anbiyaa (Alayhis salaam) are living in their graves, they perform Salaat.’ (Majmauz-zawaaid vol.8 pg.211)

    The lives of the Anbiyaa (Alayhis salaam) are also proven through the Ahaadith of Mi’raaj narrated by Bukhari and Muslim where it is mentioned that Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) led the Anbiyaa (Alayhis salaam) is Salaat and also his meeting them in Jannah.

    ibn Mas’ood (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘Verily, Allah has angels travelling through the earth, they bring to me the salaams of my Ummah.’ (Targheeb wat Tarheeb vol.2 pg.498)
