SAWM-FASTING

Responses

  1. Somebody have taken oath on quran from me not to eat pan (beatle-leaf), but after one year I have broken this oath.

He adopted oath procedure which i am explaining hereunder:

He took sura yaseen because he have not quran on that time and put my hand on it and says that i will never eat “Pan” again.

I want to ask you as I have broken the oath what kind of kaffarah I have to pay.

Please answer as soon as possible because i am worried about this.

    Regards
    السلام عليكم
    باسمه تعالى
The procedure explained in the above-mentioned question does not constitute an oath and hence there is no question of Kaffaarah.
و عندي لو حلف بالمصحف أو وضع يده عليه (الى قوله) وفيه ن”ظر ظاهر….” (رد المحتار على الدر المختار, كتاب الأيمان, مطلب فى القران)

As for he Kaffarah of a valid oath is concerned, it is to feed ten poor for two meals or to give each of them 1.6kg of wheat or its equivalent in cash or to give each of them a pair of garment which covers the full Sart and Salaah can be performed by wearing it. If one can not afford any of the stated options then one must keep three fasts constantly.

  2. Fasting on the 15th of Shaban is very important to many Muslims. I was reading that the Rasulullah(SAW) did not put any special significance on the 15th, but he fasted many days of Shaban-except the last 2-3 days before Ramadhan. Is fasting on the 15th of Shaban more important than on other days of Shaban? Is the fasting especially on the 15th of Shaban an innovation?
    Assalaamu alaykum
Since Rasulullaah salallaahu alayhi wa salaam should fast most of shaabaan , therefore the fast of the 15th cannot be regarded as a bid’ah. We know well that the virtue of the night of the 15 is a varified fact and accepted by all. Every auspicious night besides the two eids are followed by fasting the next day. Therefore the fast of the 15 will be permissible and be regarded as a mustahab fast. In a hadeeth it is mentioned that Rasulullaah saaws fast most of shaabaan in preparation of ramadhaan. Fast the fifteenth with that intention. My question to those who oppose the fasting of the fifteenth is,” how many days do you fast in shaabaan?”
To furhter emphasise about the fast i qoute from the article we have on the site that was written by mujfti taqi usmaani hafidhahullaah:-
    Fast of the 15th Sha’ban

On the day immediately following the Night of Bara’ah, i.e. the 15th of Sha’ban, it is mustahabb (advisable) to keep fast. Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, is reported to have recommended this fast emphatically. Although the scholars of hadith have some doubts in the authenticity of this report, yet it is mentioned earlier that the fasts of the first half of Sha’ban have special merits and Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, used to fast most of the days in Sha’ban. Moreover, a large number of the elders (salaf) of the Ummah have been observing the fast of the 15th of Sha’ban. This constant practice indicates that they have accepted the relevant hadith as authentic.

Therefore, it is advisable to fast the 15th of Sha’ban as an optional (nafl) fast. One can also keep a fast of qada on this day and it is hoped that he can also benefit from the merits of this fast.

  3. assalama alaikum my question is about my 13 year old boy he was born premature masahallah he is healthy but he is visually impaired and he has a shunt in his head he is a very fussy eater only eats liquidy stuff no meat beacause of his throat he gags when any solids go thru his mouth he eats only very very soft stuff and he gets headaches this is the thing i am concern about i dont know because of the shunt in his head or migraine the doctors even cant figure it or maybe he doesnt eat good my question is i live in canada he tried keeping roza when it was during winter he kept 7 to 10 roza but know this year its longer till 8pm is it farz for him to keep or if doesnt eat much should he be keeping or maybe atleast try it his understanding is ok but in some level his thinking and understanding is of a little boy maybe 7-8years for his age please give me advice the best way i can help him teach about roza to him and also from what age is it farz for a boy and a girl to start keeping roza i have 2 kids 7 and 8 jazak allah
    wa alaykumusSalaam
Firstly and fore mostly i wish to inform you that you are blessed by looking after a child with impaired vision and deformity. may ALLAH grant you the best reward in both worlds for it.
As far as teaching him about the roza and fasting , it would be best to gradually inculcate fasting to him by making him fast half the day and also promising him a present it he does so.Insha ALLAH by offering an initiative, children respond quicker and do it better.
Further i would advise that you give him vegetables by liquidizing it as well as adding small pieces of meat and liquidizing it.Insha ALLAH in that manner his energy levels will increase.
May ALLAH make it easy for you and your family ameen.

  4. Asalam-O-Alikom
I have irregular peirods ,i hear that if exceed then 10 days its a dieses ,after that we can to Namaz and keep roza .can u plz give me details on that bc its ramadan ad i dont wana misses the fard roza.
    thank you very much.
    Wa AlaykumusSalaam
The minimum period for haidh is three days and the maximum period is ten days. There minimum period of tuhr(cleanliness) from haidh has to be fifteen days.If someones patterns are irregular and bleeds for more than ten days the the extra bleeding will be regarded as istihaadhaa and salaah and fasting is permissible. Wudhu will be made for every salaah time

  5. Asalam-O-Alikom
Some one told me that U cant give Mubarikbad on ramadan.(like Ramadan Mubarik).
    Is that true or not.
    Wa Alaykumus Salaam
If your intention is du’aa for the person like sayinng may you have a blessed Ramadhaan then it is permissible. However if it is by imitation of the ways of non muslims who wish you a happy new year, etc then because of resemblence with the non muslim it will not be advisable to do it.

  6. I am 8 months pregnant, I have also been advised drips by doctor numerous times earlier. Also my finger got seriously hurt as I accidentally touched the running fan. I feel a lot of pain.
Under such circumstances can I keep fast of Ramadan.
    Assalaamu alaykum*
Fasting of ramadhaan is compulsary and can not be left out without a valid reason. Using of drips while fasting is permissible.
If a sound and ALLAH feaaring doctor declares you to weak to fast then you may leave out the fast but repaying it later will be fardh. The repaying is done by fasting one day foer one fast missed in ramadhaan. This is the command and hukm of ALLAH in the qur’aanul hakeem

    [2:185]
The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desireth for you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful.

  7. I have weak jaws due to this my jaws and gums keep bleeding but in low quantity. Sometimes they keep on bleeding in low quanity while sleeping and whenever I come to know this during sleep I wake up suddenly and gargle to avoid bleeding.
If I swallow the blood mistakenly without the intention of breaking fast, will this still break my fast and will I have to keep its Qadha & pay its kaffarah.
    Assalaamu alaykum*
If you swallow the blood unknowingly and forgetfullness then the fast will be valid. However while fasting and concious of being in the state of fasting wand then swallowing the blood will break the fast. Qadhaa will be necessary and not kaffaarah.
n.b. As a word of advise try and gargle with warm water that has rough salt added to it, but after breaking the fast.

  8. Assalam o Alaikum Mufti Sahib,
Could you please let me know the niyyat (intention) for Taraveeh prayer.
Is it necessary to give out the name of Imam while making intention for any prayer? or it will be sufficient to just say that i offer 2 rakat prayer of sunnat/ fardh etc behind this Imam
    wassalam
    wA ALAYKUMUS SALAAM
Niyyat is an act of the heart. We do not need to make a lenghtly intention verbelly. What is required that a person is aware ofwhat he is performing and what salaah it is. That suffices for niyyah.

  9. Aslam U Alikum;

Mufti sb; Please send me your reply as fatwa about the bidah started in our mosque in abu Dhabi by our imam.

He use to say Azan to end Sehri and after 10 minutes he says Azan again for fajir prayer. Is it correct in the light of Quran and Sunnah or not. Please send your fatwa as early as possible.

    Muhammad Yaqoob
    Wa alaykumus Salaam
Acccording to the hanafi mathhab there is only one adhaan for salaah and not two.I think you should clarify if he is not giving adhaan for sehri instead of end of sehri. The other mathhabs give permissiblity for adhaan for tahajjud. But If both are given to announce the entrance of fajr time then he is erronous and doing wrong. One adhaan will suffice.

  10. Assalam o Alaikum
I was having bath and was gargling with care but unfortunately few drops of water went into my throat I suppose, not sure of it though I felt that few drops entered my throat.
Has it nullified my fast and will I have to keep Qadha & pay its Kaffarah? Please reply
    Wa alaykumus Salaam

It you are sure a few drops when down your throat then you should only make qadhaa and no kaffaarah. But if you doubt and think it did not then the fast will be correct.

  11. Salam,
    1) If a person misses his 4 rakats of Farz with congregation in Isha and when he enters mosque Taraveeh is being offered. Should he join Traveeh then and there or offer Farz & 2 Sunnah first.
    2) Is it necessary to offer 3 rakat of witr in congregation with traveeh or i can leave it and offer on my own or wiht tahajjud prayer at sehri. How about when i perform witr before taraveeh and then i join taraveeh.
    Wa alaykumus Salaam
    1. He should perform his fardh and two sunnat first. There is no taraaweeh without performance of fardh first
2.taraaweeh is between the fardh and witr. Therefore witr is to be performed after the taraaweeh. It is sunnah to pefrform the witr with jamaah and better to do so. Otherwise one will be depriving himself form the reward of jamaat.

  12. Asalamualaikum
my problem during fasting is, i tak food 1 hr bfr azan at sehri let the food get a lil digested and then drink water, becaue i feel the whole food and water near my throat, i keep puking and sometimes feel like everything wil vomit off, i donno the reason as to y? only during fastings this happens?? parents say poor indigestion?? wat do i do? rite nw writing u this question im in the same state where i feel my food and water everything near my throat!! im helpless at this stage i fear if i vomit even a lil my fast would invalidate
    Wa alaykumus Salaam
Involuntaary vomiting does not invalidate the fast.
As a word of advise try and stay away from too much fries and try and have more fruits, etc during ramadhaan.

  13. Aslamoalaikum
Sir, i want to ask that , can i kiss my wife during ”fasting”?
    Thanks n Allah Hafiz
    wa alaykumus salaam
To kiss your wife in ramadhaan is permissible if it does not cause arousing of passion and desire.

  14. Asalamu alaikum.
    Mufti sahib how r u.
I am Hafiz Naeem from Port au Prince Haiti.
today i was filling diesel in the vehicle with a pipe from a trailer sucking with my mouth, suddenly the diesel went into my throat and stomach. it was happend so quickly that i could not stopped it. my question is , with this reason the fast will be broken or not. please help me in detail.
    Wa alaykumus Salaam.
YUes the fast will be broken aned qadhaa will have to be made after ramadhaan. However no kafaarah will have to be given. When any non food paricle enters the throat then the fast will be broken but there will be no kaffaarah.
    * By the way i hope you are fine after such an episode.

  15. when i man have sexual relation with his wife from back side. What is punishment for him
    Assalaamu alaykum
To have intercourse with your wife in the baack (anal sex) is totally forbidden and haraam. Rasulullaah Salallahu alayhi wa salaam has equalled it to a minor homosexuality (ahmad0 aand ot is also narrated that the person will not be looked at with mercy by ALLAH (tirmidhi/nasaai)

  16. Asalamu alaikum.

    Thank u for your reply.

Sir i am a pakistani and presently serving with united nations peacekeeping mission at Haiti.
I would like to ask u that how should i pay the fitrana. according to pakistan rates or haiti.
and also send me the complete way of fitrana
    Wa alaykumus Salaam
The fitra is actually a means of showing consideration to the poor on the day of eid. It would be preferable to give it before eid and it should be given before the eid salaah. The amount payable can be calculated on the price of 2.3 kgs of bread flour. Since you are based in Haiti it would be preferable to give in accordance to where you live. You should give it on your behalf as well as on the behalf of you non baaligh children.

    best regards

Naeem from Port au prince Haiti

    • Thanks for your reply

  17. Asalamu alaikum.

    Dear Mufti Sahib
    1. My first question:- There are may peoples who say only eight rakat in taraweeh. please tell me in detail what is exact qty of taraweeh.

    2. I have come to know that women are not authorized to go to graveyard. But why women go the grave of teh Prophet (PBUP). Please send me detail
    Wa alaykumus Salaam
The amount of rakaats of taraaweeh is 20. This is by ijmaa of the sahaabah and also the amalut tawaatur(continuous practise) of the whole muslim ummah except a few.To learn more in detail read the article written by my collegue and friend click here
    2. As for women not allowed to visit the graveyard that is not from the ulema, but the direct command of Rasulullaah Salallaahu alayhi wa sallam. as for allowing them in the maqbarah of Rasulullaah salalahu alayhi wa sallam it is because it is our duty to do so when in madinatullllmunawwarah. The one who does not visit will be deprived of his intercession on the day of qiyaamaah. Also the women are not allowed to visit with the men and a special time is given for them to seperately visit.

  18. Asalamu Alaikum
Dear Mufti Sahib how r u. How is ramadan going.

I would like to ask u two question.

    1. You replied my question about fitrana that it is calculated on 2.3 kgs of bread flour. But sir, in haiti there is no bread flour, the people use only rice or any other things. So can we calculate rice or not. if yes then how much quantity.

    2. Aitekaf is sunat-e-kefaya or farz-e-kefaya. we are 124 people in haiti on un mission, someone told me that aitekaf is sunat-e-kefaya, can we leave it, please help me.
    Thanks

    best regards
    Naeem
    Wa Alaykumus salaam
Ramadhaan is going well but i fear i do not fulfill its huquq.May ALLAH forgive us and bless us through HIS infinite mercy.
1.Yes it will be permissible to calculate it on the price of rice which is the staple diet. The weight will b the same.
2.i’tikaaf is a fadh kfaayah amd at least one person has to sit in i’tikaaf otherwise the whole community will be responsible.

  19. Asalamu Alaikum,
