Whatever you have heard concerning Walimah is completely wrong. Walimah is neither Farz nor Wajib. It is Sunnah for the groom to invite relatives, friends and the poor for feast within the next two days after he has spent sometimes with the bride in privacy. The wedding feast organized after two days would not be termed as Walimah. It would be normal a feast according to the Hanfi School of thought.
The Maqsad of Walimah is expressing gratitude to Allaah, extending happiness amongst relatives, friends and the poor through a wedding feast and making the formal announcement of the Nikaah in the community.
However, moderation must be observed in holding the Walimah. It must be within one’s capability, free from extravagance and showing off, and the poor members of the community are invited. The Nabee of Allaah is reported to have said, “The worst food is the food of Walimah to which the rich are invited and the poor are neglected. (Al-Bukharee)

Asaalam-o-Alikum Mufti Sb,
Regarding having Valima with in 2 days (after consummation of marriage)will be considered as Sunnah I want some more clarification at this .
Say Wedding is on 10th Mar and function normally ends late night like 2 am (11th Mar) then Groom accompany bride to his home for the first time.
Now if Valima reception is organized on 13th Mar (Reception around 10:00-11:00 PM) will it be considered as completion of Sunnah ??
JAZAKALLAH.
